Welcome to BanBalch.com

Thank you for taking a moment to  visit our page and to learn about the unsettling controversies surrounding Balch & Bingham.  Visit our Menu items, and scroll our posts to read more about:

  • The corrupt creation of a Star Chamber in August of 2017 where secret court proceedings moved forward for over 500 days and the public had no knowledge or access to the alleged criminal, unscrupulous, and perjuring acts by Balch & Bingham and others.
  • The alleged conspiracy against Burt Newsome , a father of four young children, who was wrongly targeted, falsely arrested and defamed. His case caused Balch to seek the sealing of court proceeding and the creation of the Star Chamber.
  • The suppression of African-Americans by Oliver Robinson who was given bribes of $360,000 funneled through Balch. Robinson is currently serving 4 years in federal prison for his role in the bribery scheme. Balch partner Joel I. Gilbert was convicted of bribery and money laundering on July 20, 2018 and sentenced to five years in federal prison.
  • The questionable political ménage à trois between Balch, Ex-U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions, and Black Hall Aerospace a/k/a AAL USA, Inc.
  • The FBI investigation allegedly related to Balch subcontracts in Mississippi.

Our Objective

Our advocacy group originally called on the Trump Administration and Congressional Leadership to ban Balch & Bingham, a prominent law firm from Alabama with offices in Washington, D.C., from soliciting or lobbying Congress or the Administration immediately.

We now want Balch clients to suspend their relationship with the embattled firm.

We want Balch to conduct a “top-to-bottom” review of their firm and hold any spoiled apples inside the firm accountable.

Our hope is that Balch will start by focusing on their commitment to “mutual cooperation and openness and professionalism,” and that they will settle the Burt Newsome Conspiracy Case, and hold a Day of Forgiveness and Reconciliation in North Birmingham.

Special Message to Balch & Bingham Partners, Attorneys, and Staff

There are many professional, ethical, and outstanding professionals working at Balch & Bingham. Regardless of the criminal conviction of Balch partner Joel I. Gilbert, adherence to the law and best practices cannot be ignored.

The few spoiled apples need to be dealt with and we hope so soon.

Without our involvement, we don’t believe a “future star” partner would have been fired on March 3, 2017. You must demand higher standards and swift action from your management team not to defend the indefensible, but to seek better practices and affirm the best professional standards.

Federal Dragnet? All Eyes on Crosswhite, Alabama Power, and Newly Revealed Alleged Criminal Acts

    April 11, 2022 /

Was Kallon offered a deal? Just three years shy from senior status, Federal Judge Abdul K. Kallon abruptly announced his resignation to a lifetime appointment. He would have had full benefits and privileges. Multiple legal observers have told us that this resignation makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. And people are asking: Was Kallon offered full criminal immunity for his cooperation in an alleged federal probe? Was Kallon required to resign after he wrapped up current pending or ongoing cases as a condition of an alleged full criminal immunity deal? What Kallon has said to media is that his spouse has…

Breaking News: Judge Abdul K. Kallon Abruptly Resigns; Crosswhite Scandal Explodes

    April 6, 2022 /

Judge Abdul K. Kallon who presided over the North Birmingham Bribery Trial is abruptly resigning. His clerk confirmed the news to the CDLU this afternoon with a sigh. Kallon joins disgraced ex-U.S. Attorney Jay E. Town, who fled in the middle of the night in 2020 after photos were published of him chugging cocktails with Alabama Power CEO and ex-Balch partner Mark A. Crosswhite allegedly at the height of the North Birmingham Bribery Trial. The unexpected announcement comes as federal investigators allegedly probe obstruction of justice. Sources claim the obstruction may include the alleged secret “unmentionable” deal between Alabama Power…

Balch Bonanza: Spring Fever and Two Criminal Trials

    April 4, 2022 /

Welcome back from a wonderful Spring Break! This spring two criminal trials are set to begin. One local case is against the alleged pedophile and ex-Balch attorney Chase T. Espy and the other is a federal case against Paul Daigle, the ex-CEO of Balch’s former client Black Hall Aerospace. While Stan Blanton, Balch & Bingham’s managing partner, was busy patting himself on the back with a make-believe award for “diversity and inclusion,” the alleged racist law firm among others appears to be under federal investigation. Spring fever has arrived, and the Three Stooges (Balch, Alabama Power, and Drummond) are under…

Half-Decade Old, BanBalch.com Fights for Inherent Goodness

    March 21, 2022 /

We simply cannot believe that BanBalch.com is five-years old as of last Friday. A half-decade later, our website is a success because of you, our dear readers, and the incompetent and foolish leadership at Balch & Bingham and Alabama Power which arrogantly dismissed the need for an examination of conscience, apologies, and internal reform. Although this site started with the Newsome Conspriracy Case, (and was quite plain and boring), Balch’s self-inflicted wounds mushroomed our reporting and advocacy. Five years later, Burt Newsome is more successful as an attorney, and highly respected for fighting for his livelihood while protecting his family…

Maryland Indictment is Nothing Compared to Disgraced Ex-U.S. Attorney Jay E. Town’s Alleged Misconduct

    March 17, 2022 /

Creating national headlines, the Office of the U.S. Attorney for Maryland indicted Baltimore City State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby in January for alleged mortgage fraud. The Baltimore Sun reported: Mosby is charged with two counts of making false statements on a loan application and two counts of perjury. Mosby has pleaded not guilty to all charges and is expected to stand trial in early May.  The Office of the U.S. Attorney in Maryland gave more details: According to the four-count indictment… Mosby submitted “457(b) Coronavirus-Related Distribution Requests” for one-time withdrawals of $40,000 and $50,000, respectively, from City of Baltimore’s Deferred Compensation…

Tide is Turning in Alabama; “Unacceptable” Misconduct Draws Federal Scrutiny

    March 10, 2022 /

The Three Stooges (Alabama Power, Balch & Bingham, and Drummond Company) should be prepared to be slapped around by federal authorities and environmental groups. Two major events occurred recently that show unequivocally that the tide is turning against some of the most powerful and wealthiest entities in Alabama. WBHM reports: The Alabama Supreme Court has sided with environmentalists who say the Birmingham Water Works Board (BWWB) is not abiding by a court order to protect land around Lake Purdy and parts of the Cahaba River, which are the largest source of drinking water in the Birmingham area. The Supreme Court overturned an earlier…

Update: Motion Denied; Criminal Trial Date Set for Ex-CEO of Balch & Bingham Client

    March 3, 2022 /

The indictment shook Balch stooges and defenders who had foolishly dismissed our work with law enforcement. In 2019, in Balch & Bingham’s 69-page brief before the Alabama Supreme Court in the Newsome Conspiracy Case, the embattled law firm complained that they were not mentioned in the Report by Special Counsel Robert S. Mueller III, writing: BanBalch.com also stated that BanBalch.com/CDLU.org had been in contact with the Office of Special Counsel Robert Mueller about Balch. The now-public Mueller Report, however, does not mention Balch. Did the foolish leadership at Balch truly believe that we were not in contact with the Office of the Special Counsel…

Prosecutorial Abuse of Power? Disgraced ex-U.S. Attorney Jay E. Town’s Alleged Misconduct Becomes a Tinderbox

    March 1, 2022 /

[This post originally was published on July 1, 2021. Now eight months later, Town’s tinderbox appears to be engulfed in flames. An alleged federal probe appears to have caused abundant turmoil at Alabama Power, Balch & Bingham, and Drummond Company; and may finally bring down the house of marked cards.]  Our sources in Washington, D.C. tell us that famed Baltimore legal powerhouse Venable appears to be engaged in looking into the alleged framing and set up of “fall guy” and ex-Drummond executive David Roberson, whose criminal lawyers rejected a no-brainer full-immunity deal with federal prosecutors. As readers may recall, Balch…

Balch’s Questionable Advisors and Birmingham Business Journal’s Worthless and Make-Believe Awards

    February 24, 2022 /

The pleasure was momentary, but the price was abominable. Another day and more swollen black eyes. Balch & Bingham’s reputation as an alleged racist law firm has stung the embattled firm again. In a lengthy and insightful article about electoral redistricting in the state of Alabama, the AL.com headline screamed, “‘Don’t take us back to Jim Crow’: Redistricting sparks passion, racial tensions in Alabama cities.” AL.com writes: “In Auburn, they are trying to compact all of the African Americans into one district where they could have had two districts that are predominately African American,” said Bernard Simelton, president of the…

Righteous or Corrupt Verdict? SCOTUS Allows Convictions to Stand; More Indictments Coming?

    February 22, 2022 /

Today, the Supreme Court of the United States denied a petition for a Writ of Certiorari for ex-Balch & Bingham partner Joel I. Gilbert. The same goes for ex-Drummond executive David Roberson. Gilbert is serving 5 years in federal prison while Roberson is serving 30 months. Now that the crimes in the North Birmingham Bribery Scandal have been affirmed and all legal appeals have been exhausted, are more criminal indictments coming? After their criminal convictions, Assistant U.S. Attorney George Martin, the lead prosecutor of the North Birmingham Bribery Case stated: We’re happy for the citizens of Birmingham that someone is…

Bloomberg News: Balch & Bingham Must Face Claims of “Misrepresention and Concealment”

    February 15, 2022 /

We called the Alabama Supreme Court decision on ex-Drummond executive David Roberson’s $75 million civil suit a possible “lethal blow” to embattled law firm Balch & Bingham. Now the national media has begun focusing on the narrative and the initial reports appear to be devastating. Bloomberg News writes: Roberson sued [Balch & Bingham] and his former employer in March 2019, alleging negligence, fraud, suppression, and implied imdemnity against the firm. Alabama’s top court…grant[ed] an application for rehearing on claims against Balch & Bingham for misrepresention and concealment based on allegations that Roberson had previously asked the firm’s in-house ethics attorneys…

Is the U.S. Department of Justice Probing Trump-Era Lackeys from Alabama?

    February 10, 2022 /

Since November, we have been told by high-level sources that a federal investigation is ongoing in Birmingham and focused on “obstruction” and other alleged crimes. Balch & Bingham appears to be in disarray, suffering from internal strife since late last year and we know that something is going on. In Tuesday’s post, we outlined five areas that could potentially lead to more federal indictments. Today, we list a cast of characters that should be interviewed by federal investigators. Undoubtedly, backers, insiders, lackeys and stooges from Alabama who were tied to the Trump Administration appear to have tried to protect their…

Update: Alleged Pedophile, Ex-Balch Attorney Espy Waives His Right to a Preliminary Hearing

    February 10, 2022 /

??Update March 8, 2023: Espy was sentenced to 97 months in federal prison. Read more by clicking here. According to an order signed by Jefferson County Judge Katrina Ross on December 13, 2021, ex-Balch & Bingham attorney Chase T. Espy waived his right to a preliminary hearing. He probably did not want or need the media spotlight. Espy will face a criminal trial this year. According to allegations in his warrant for arrest from August, Espy is accused of “knowingly, with intent to commit an unlawful sex act, entice, induce, persuade, seduce, prevail, advise, lure, or order...a child…to meet the…

More Federal Criminal Indictments Needed Against Three Stooges

    February 8, 2022 /

With the Alabama Supreme Court saying Balch must stand trial for fraud in ex-Drummond executive David Roberson’s $75 million civil lawsuit, more criminal indictments are needed. The Three Stooges of this horrific saga known as the North Birmingham Bribery Scandal need to be held accountable. The rebirth of the North Birmingham Bribery Scandal may go on for another three or four years in secret, in a sealed and closed Star Chamber. However, federal investigators can and must dig deep into the shenanigans. Larry, Curly and Moe have been replaced by “Lying” Balch, “Confused” Drummond, and “Unmentionable” Alabama Power. 1. More…

Lethal Blow to Balch & Bingham?

    February 7, 2022 /

No general counsel or government attorney can justify hiring Balch & Bingham any longer because the firm appears to be a third-party risk. The decision by the Alabama Supreme Court two weeks ago declaring that Balch & Bingham will stand trial for fraud in ex-Drummond executive David Roberson’s $75 million civil lawsuit appears to be a lethal blow to the once-prestigious, silk-stocking law firm. The Alabama Supreme Court noted in its decision that the embattled law firm argued that “Balch had owed no duty to Roberson because Drummond, not Roberson, was Balch’s client.” The Supreme Court concluded: For the purposes…
