Spotlight on Balch & Bingham

Happy 2nd Birthday to BanBalch.com!

Today marks two years since we launched our website advocating for inherent goodness from Balch & Bingham’s leadership.

Balch & Bingham has foolishly ignored us for 730 days instead of putting the matters behind them.

Our efforts began with the Burt Newsome Conspiracy Case. We met Burt Newsome for the first time at a charity event in the late fall of 2016. When we heard his horrific story of being a victim of the alleged inappropriate acts of a powerful law firm, we were in disbelief.

At the time we launched this website, Balch & Bingham was at the pinnacle of power and prestige with the election of President Donald Trump, and the appointments of Balch’s long-time pal Jeff Sessions as U.S. Attorney General and Balch’s biggest stooge Luther Strange as U.S. Senator. Balch was expected to make millions because of their deep Washington connections.

In part because of our advocacy work, Balch’s sweet dreams have turned into an ugly mirage.

  • Jeff Sessions was fired.
  • Luther Strange was defeated.
  • Once-esteemed Balch partner Joel I. Gilbert was convicted on all six criminal charges including money-laundering and bribery.
  • Balch has lost 17 of 18 of their former lobbying clients in Washington, D.C.
  • Balch had their worst year ever in Washington D.C. in 2018 according to the Center for Responsive Politics.

Instead of making millions, Balch has lost millions.

The silk-stocking law firm that was once respected and feared is now mocked and laughed about from the highest circles in Mountain Brook to the watering holes in Montgomery.

When Burt Newsome originally wanted to settle this matter over four years ago, his legal team asked for three things:

  1. An apology.
  2. The end of the tracking of Newsome’s banking cases by Balch partners.
  3. $150,000 for revenue lost from the alleged defamation.

Why would Balch turn a $150,000 settlement into an 8-figure payout?

For now, enjoy a slice of cake and ponder that question, especially if you are a Balch & Bingham associate.
